Windows 7 just overtook XP in the United States


Microsoft WindowsIt’s finally happened. After a long reign at the top, Microsoft’s Windows XP is no longer the most widely used desktop operating system in the United States, instead turning the crown over to Windows 7.
As of April, Windows 7 has 31.71% of the desktop operating system market, compared to 31.56% for Windows XP.

Acer will be bringing its first Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet to the U.S. on April 24 at an iPad-busting price of $449.99.
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the company’s first Honeycomb-based tablet and it features a 10.1-inch screen, dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and front- and rear-facing cameras.

In fact, YouTube realizes that this could be a problem, and have alternate methods for you. YouTube has a Feather tool that lets you watch YouTube videos on slower connections. It doesn’t include those items that eat up bandwidth and make YouTube videos slower.

Well, what do we have here? Sure enough, it's that coveted white Nexus S with AT&T-compatible 3G that we mentioned yesterday, and we just got our dirty little paws on it thanks to a friendly tipster. This particular handset was purchased from Negri Electronics, and it's both unlocked and running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread), the version that just barely started rolling out to existing Nexus S units in February.

Android Will Rule Half of the Smartphone Market By 2012


Following a similar recent prediction by IDC, market research firm Gartner has predicted big growth in the smartphone market in the next couple of years, with Symbian all but disappearing and Android leading the way.
Gartner predicts worldwide smartphone sales will reach 468 million units in 2011 and Android will command 38.5% of the smartphone market. By 2012, that rate will increase to 49.9%, but it will drop slightly to 48.8% by 2015.

When a tablet version of Chrome OS was teased back in February of last year, we found it a legitimately exciting proposition. Now that we have Android's Honeycomb iteration designed specifically for slates, however, we're having to wonder just why Google's still chasing that keyboard-less dream with its web-centric OS.

Microsoft and Toyota are jointly investing $12 million in a bid to build a cloud-based platform that will connect cars, homes and electrical smart grids. The joint venture, announced today, will be run out of Toyota Media Services and will leverage Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud computing service, creating a platform for mobility apps that can encompass communication, GPS, power management and safety.

Samsung Galaxy S II gets upgraded to 1.2GHz, delayed until May or June?


Well, it looks like there's some good news and some bad news for those holding out for a Samsung Galaxy S II. GSM Arena is reporting that Samsung has decided to upgrade the phone's dual-core processor from 1GHz to 1.2GHz, something that was first revealed on Samsung Estonia's Facebook page and has apparently be confirmed by GSM Arena itself from an "internal source."
